Maria Hertogh Riots of 1950

  • Thirteen year old Maria Hertogh's custody battle was highly publicized and led to 3 days of rioting, 18deaths and 173 injuries.

The Maria Hertogh riot's were associated with racial and religious tolerance. Since then Singapore has worked hard to maintain racial harmony, because a country that small cannot afford another racial riot.
